You want to make sure that you clean everything up as good as you can. Make sure that the rat has a hard time finding food, and you can perhaps get them to go away.

Setting Traps

Setting traps is actually a very good way to kill rats if you know what you are doing. Rats are actually very cautious creatures, and you need to be very smart. You need to find a pathway that they normally take from their nest to the food they are eating. Watch for grease stains on the floor boards and fecal pellets. Once you have found where they are, make sure that you set the trap perpendicular to the floor boards so the rat has to climb over the trigger to get to the bait. Also, use something that the rat is familiar with. If you find that they are eating a box of crackers, use that cracker to catch the rat. This is a very effective way to catch those rats.
