• 12 cotton balls
• 1 cup dried lavender leaves
• 1 cup dried rose petals
• 6 breathable jewelry bags with drawstrings or 6 nylon knee-highs and 6 pieces of string that are each 6-inches in length

Start by putting several drops of peppermint essential oil on each cotton ball until they're thoroughly soaked. Place the cotton balls in a large bowl and add the dried flower pieces. Use a spoon to stir the plants and cotton balls together until the plants start to soften from the essential oil. Then, place 2 cotton balls and a small handful of dried flowers in your jewelry bags and tie them closed. If you're using nylons, fill knee-highs and then use a piece of string to close the open end.

You can then put the potpourri bags where you tend to have the most rodent trouble for some extra protection and a better smelling home overall. You should replace the bags ones with fresh whenever you notice that the cotton balls are almost dry.

Make Your Own Candles

Another way to infuse peppermint into parts of your home where you have a rodent problem is to make your own essential oil scented candles. With a few supplies such as unscented soy wax, candle wicks, some small containers, and peppermint essential oil, you can make your own custom candles in the sizes and shapes that complement your home's décor. After your newly made candles have cooled put them near windows where the draft can spread the scent of the peppermint essential oils throughout your home. You can also light them on kitchen counters and leave the cupboards open to keep rodents away from your food.
